Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you'll meet an all-weather representative, be picked up there and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. The first day of the hike begins at Machame Gate, usually an hour's drive from Moshi by Machame Road Gate. At the gate you will meet your walking group, guide, porter and cook. There will be a series of activities as the porters assemble equipment for the hike, where we complete the park's formalities.Also first part of the route climbs steadily and passes through beautiful dense rainforest. This road is less traveled, so it can be a bit densely wooded and often wet and muddy underfoot.
On the second day of machame, you'll wake up early, where our route continues through the forest until we climb a steep hill on the Shira Plateau. The path is relatively steep as you enter the lower alpine area, which is characterized by moors and grasslands. Shira Camp 2 sits on a plateau that gives you the first views of Kibo to the northwest and Mount Meru to the east. The second day of machame lasted about 4-6 hours and covered 5.4 km / 3.4 miles.
On the third day of machame, now walking in the tall grasslands, the landscape changes the whole character of the ride. Then We crossed to the southwest of Kilimanjaro, passed below the lava tower and the last stretch of the western hole, and finally reached the camp. Full day at altitude (up to 4600m), although you will end the day at a very high altitude when you leave camp Shira, this is arguably one of the most important days of your hike as it gives you have the opportunity to climb high and sleep less, which is very important for acclimatization in kilimanjaro.
The fourth day of machame begins by descending to the starting point of the Great Barranco, a large ravine. We now then exited steeply, climbing the Great Barranco Wall, separating us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo. Actually It was a climb, not technically demanding but long and tiring. Passing the Heim and Kersten glaciers, we headed towards the Karanga valley. From here, we took a steep climb up the Karanga Valley to our overnight campsite at Camp Karang, located at an altitude of 3963m. For the thrill-seekers, we'll do a mid-afternoon acclimatization hike up about 4,200m before heading back to camping for the night.
The fifth day of machame is the night (and day) at the top! We started around midnight and hiked up the glaciers at the top. We will then climb the curtain in 4-5 hours but will achieve amazing heights in a short distance. The views are spectacular. We will be on the crater rim at Stella Point (5739m) when the first rays of the sun hit us. The Dramatic cliffs in the crater surround us and the views of Mawenzi's jagged peaks and beyond are breathtaking. Another hour of walking will bring us to the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m). We then started our descent by heading back to Stella Point, then down a screened slope and back to Camp Barafu for breakfast, before finally descending to Camp Mweka for a long rest.
